Requirements for Viivi

Viivi requires the platform the following to run.

• a 64-bit PC
  

  Viivi version 00.18.00 and later require a PC system equipped with a 64-bit CPU.
  The PCs that are generally sold are enough, and no superior specs for CPU, memory, and storage are required.
  
  Although the version 00.17.01 and older run on 32-bit PCs as well, the version 00.18.00 and later run only on 64-bit PCs.
  
  Of course, larger programs require larger memory capacity to run.
  The upper limit of the memory capacity usable for Viivi is determined by the limitations of the hardware, the OS, and the JVM.
  
  Viivi IDE does not run on the devices that do not support Java/Swing multi-window environment, such as smart-phones and tablets (with Android or iOS) and PDAs.

  If you have a PC which failed Windows 11 test, it may be a good idea to make it a Scheme-dedicated machine by installing Linux on it!
  If you have money to spare, please consider firstly 1. Display Area and 2. Memory Capacity.
  
  
  1. Display Area
     Viivi IDE can show more information at once on the display with larger area.
     If you have 4K TV which can be connected to your PC with the HDMI cable, it must work as a huge external monitor.
  2. Memory Capacity
     Scheme programs sometimes use relatively more memories for the frequent use of recursive-calls.
     The memory consumption can be reduced by using tail-recursive-calls.
  3. CPU Spec
     No especially high-speeded and multi-threaded CPUs are required.
     Of course a faster CPU can run Viivi faster.
     
  4. External Graphics Card
     Although Viivi IDE displays graphically indeed, the author has never felt inconvenience with the systems of a graphics-chip on the CPU (without external graphics cards).
  5. External Storage Capacity (such as HDD and SSD)
     Except for the cases processing huge external data, Viivi itself does not require especially large external storage capacities.

• JRE (Java Runtime Environment) of version 1.8.0 or newer

  JRE is a software environment including JVM for Java programs to run.
  JDK (Java Development Kit) includes JRE.
  
  Please use JRE of 1.8.0 or newer version.
  Viivi does not run on JREs older than version 1.8.0.
  
  If it is not yet installed, please obtain the latest JRE and install it correctly.
  JREs for PCs are available from the web page of ORACLE.
  For the JREs for other platforms (such as Apples), please ask the makers of your hardwares and OSs.
  
  In the author's development environment, Viivi IDE is confirmed to run only with Oracle's JRE.
  Please note that other JREs possibly may not run Viivi.
